Protect America review
Has one of your neighbors, friends or family members become the victim of a brutal home invasion? Or has your home been the target of burglars in the past? Whichever the case, know that there are companies out there that specialize in securing your home and/or business, so that you can rest assured that you, your loved ones and your possessions are safe. In this Protect America review I’ll go over the background of the company, the good, the bad and of course whether it’s worth your time and money. Let’s start with a short introduction to the company.
Introduction to Protect America
As one of the first, if not the first, security companies to offer wireless security systems, PA has made home security affordable for everyone.
Founded in Texas in 1992, Protect America has more than two decades of experience in the home security market. The company certainly lives up to half of its name as it is indeed available in the whole of the United States. So regardless where in the US you live, you’ll be able to profit from their experience.
They have been backing up their claims to offer the best value for money for years. In 2012, the company even received a Consumers Digest Best Buy award.
The main benefit of going wireless for your home security is that it’s easy to install. You don’t have to do any drilling to put in wires. You don’t need an attic or crawl space to run wires from one side of the house to the other. And you don’t have to worry about having to replace the wires after a couple of years because it’s worn for example from being placed under carpeting.
Another major benefit is that you can easily take it with you should you ever decide to move. Because of the nationwide service, you won’t even have to worry about coverage.
Don’t worry if you’re technically challenged. All the necessary equipment, the sensors and main control panel, are easy to set up. You’ll receive a set up guide, installation video and free help is just a phone call away. It’s nice to know beforehand that the PA customer service will walk you through the installation step by step, should you hit a roadblock along the way.
After setting everything up, you just call the customer service to let them know they can activate the system. Depending on the size of your house, you can have everything set up in about an hour.
I already mentioned PA claims to offer the best value for money, let’s take a look at what that entails.
With 5 packages to choose from, Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, most people will find exactly what they need. If you need more sensors, you can of course customize the package, but generally these deals range from $19.99 to $42.99 per month.
Unlike many other companies, Protect America doesn’t have any installation or activation fees. Oh and did I mention they lock in rates? With prices of just about everything going up every year, that’s a bonus well worth mentioning.
The two entry level plans, Copper and Bronze, are perfect for securing smaller homes or offices. The major difference between the two are the number of sensors included.
If you choose one of the premium plans, you can opt in to “Smart Connect”, allowing you to control your home security system from your smartphone, not just a landline. You can get a free quote on their website to see which plan is perfect for you and how much it would cost.
Contracts typically run for 3 years, which is standard in the home security business. And because you can take the system with you when you move anywhere in the US, you don’t even have to worry about breaching contract.
If you sign up for 3 years and you meet the necessary credit requirements. Protect America won’t even charge you for the equipment. This is particularly interesting when you want to secure a larger home and thus need more sensors.
There are only two downsides to choosing PA over another company as far as I can tell.
The first being that a company called Criticom is responsible for the monitoring. Even though Criticom services thousands of home security services nationwide, if something goes wrong, it can be a bit of a hassle to have to contact a different company than PA.
The second downside, depending on your situation, is that compared to other companies, Protect America offers less options. It’s up to you to decide whether you really need, and want to pay for, all the bells and whistles other companies offer.
To break it all down for you, if you’re looking for a quality, value for money, DIY home security system, you won’t find a better deal than with Protect America. The GE certified equipment is reliable and easy to install and you have over 20 years of experience at your service. All for the price of a night out with your family. Peace of mind has never been more affordable.
